Four Major Weaknesses of Deep Groove Ball Bearings
Content
While strong in vertical pressure, it malfunctions under extreme axial pushing (like a jack) → ball bearings slip and derail → collapses within three days.
Remedy: Heavy axial loads necessitate the use of thrust bearings.
Even slight misalignment is unacceptable: Shaft/bore misalignment exceeding 0.5° (the thickness of a human hair) → ball bearings wear down the raceway on one side → abnormal noise + premature failure.
Comparison: Self-aligning bearings can tolerate 2° misalignment (like a oscillating fan), but this type of bearing is like a perfectionist.
Scene of Failure: Belt pulls the shaft crooked → bearing edge peels off → equipment vibrates like a tractor.
It succumbs to high speeds: Above 15,000 RPM: Centrifugal force dries out the grease → raceway burns blue and smokes.
Beads fly around and hit the cage → shatter and jam.
Solution: Replace the high-speed electric spindle with a ceramic hybrid bearing (replace the beads with ceramic ones, making them too light to fly).
Stainless steel isn't always stainless steel:
304 stainless steel in salt water → rusts through in six months (fishing boat wheel bearings ruined after seawater immersion).
Ordinary chrome steel in sweat → rusts in three weeks (gym equipment bearings squeaking).
Desperate solution: In strong acid or alkali environments, use all-plastic bearings or ceramic bearings.
